The Jonesboro community is mourning the tragic loss of 41-year-old Taylor Dobbins, who lost his life in a devastating multi-vehicle crash on U.S. Highway 49 on Wednesday afternoon, May 27.

According to preliminary reports, the fatal collision occurred at approximately 2:13 p.m. when a westbound 2015 Dodge Charger hydroplaned on the rain-slick roadway. Authorities stated the vehicle lost control, crossed the centerline, and collided head-on with an oncoming 2025 Nissan Rogue, resulting in a violent impact that ended in tragedy.

Following the collision, the Dodge Charger reportedly left the roadway and overturned.

Emergency Response

Emergency responders arrived quickly and worked to assist those involved in the crash. Despite lifesaving efforts, Taylor Dobbins of Jonesboro was pronounced deceased at the scene.

His sudden and heartbreaking passing has left family members, friends, and the broader community grieving the loss of a life taken far too soon.

The driver of the Nissan Rogue, identified as 44-year-old Penny Spaulding, sustained injuries and was transported to St. Bernards Regional Medical Center for treatment. Authorities have not released additional information regarding her condition.

Additional Vehicles Involved

According to the crash report, debris from the initial collision created additional hazards on the highway. A 2023 Jeep Grand Wagoneer and a 2025 Ram pickup truck later struck debris left in the roadway following the crash.

While no additional serious injuries were reported from the secondary impacts, the situation added complexity to the emergency response as crews worked to secure the area and assist motorists.

Weather Conditions Played Major Role

Investigators indicated that wet weather conditions were a significant contributing factor in the crash. Hydroplaning was identified as the primary cause of the Dodge Charger losing traction and crossing into oncoming traffic.

The incident serves as another reminder of the dangers posed by slick road conditions during periods of heavy rain.

Investigation Continues

Law enforcement officers remained on scene for several hours as investigators documented evidence, reconstructed the sequence of events, and cleared the roadway.

Traffic along U.S. Highway 49 experienced temporary disruptions while emergency crews restored safety to the area.

Authorities stated the crash remains under investigation as part of standard fatal accident review procedures. At this time, officials have not indicated that criminal charges are expected.
