The fatal collision occurred Thursday night and prompted a significant emergency response, forcing the closure of both lanes of Route 7 for several hours as investigators examined the scene. The incident drew the attention of residents across the area after the Oromocto RCMP issued a public advisory warning motorists to avoid the highway due to a serious crash.

According to the RCMP, officers were first notified at approximately 9:40 p.m. on May 28, 2026, about a vehicle reportedly travelling the wrong way at a high rate of speed on Route 7 near Waasis.
