The Port Deposit community is mourning the tragic loss of Richard E. Hickman III, 38, who died Thursday night following a single-vehicle motorcycle crash in Cecil County.

According to the Cecil County Sheriff’s Office, emergency responders were dispatched to the 300 block of Camp Meeting Ground Road at approximately 11:10 p.m. after receiving reports of a motorcycle accident. Upon arrival, crews found Hickman unresponsive at the scene. Despite emergency efforts, he was pronounced deceased by the Cecil County Department of Emergency Services.

Preliminary findings indicate that Hickman was operating a 2024 Harley-Davidson motorcycle westbound on Camp Meeting Ground Road when he lost control while traveling through an uphill curve. Investigators have not yet determined what caused the loss of control and continue to examine all factors surrounding the crash.

Authorities reported that after losing control, the motorcycle fell onto its left side, causing both Hickman and the motorcycle to slide across a nearby yard. During the slide, the motorcycle struck a large rock and a mailbox before coming to rest. Investigators are continuing their review of the scene as part of the ongoing crash investigation.
