A man accused in a shooting at a birthday gathering in Berkeley that left one person dead and three others injured is now facing multiple felony charges, according to authorities. The St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office announced Friday that 25-year-old Devion Sneed has been charged with first-degree murder, two counts of first-degree assault, unlawful use of a weapon, stealing a firearm, and four counts of armed criminal action. Authorities identified the deceased victim as Lamonte Keys, who died as a result of injuries sustained during the shooting. According to investigators, the incident occurred at approximately 5:20 p.m. Thursday at Ramona-Mathison Lake Park, located near Interstate 70 and North Hanley Road. The park was hosting a birthday celebration when the violence erupted. Preliminary findings indicate that the shooting stemmed from a dispute involving family members and children playing near the water. Investigators said the disagreement escalated into an argument and physical confrontation before gunfire was exchanged. Four individuals were struck by gunfire during the incident. Keys was pronounced dead following the shooting. Three women also suffered injuries and were transported to area hospitals for treatment. Authorities reported that all of the individuals involved are believed to have known one another. Following the shooting, investigators developed information identifying Sneed as a suspect and obtained an arrest warrant. Court records indicate that he is being held on a $600,000 bond upon arrest. Law enforcement officials continue to examine the circumstances leading up to the shooting, including witness statements, physical evidence, and any additional information that may help establish a complete timeline of events. Authorities have not released further details regarding a motive beyond the initial family-related dispute described by investigators. The St. Louis County Police Department and the St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office stated that the investigation remains active and ongoing. Additional information may be released as the case proceeds through the criminal justice system. The shooting has left family members, friends, and members of the Berkeley community mourning the loss of Lamonte Keys while hoping for the recovery of those injured in the incident.
