Sullivan County, Indiana is mourning the tragic death of 59-year-old Bradley D. Galenski of Sullivan, who was killed in a head-on collision on US 41 near Old Highway 54. The crash remains under active investigation by the Indiana State Police Putnamville Post and has deeply impacted family, friends, and the local community.

Preliminary information indicates the crash happened around 11:00 a.m. when Galenski’s 1998 Ford Ranger was traveling southbound in the northbound lanes of US 41. Authorities say multiple 911 calls had already been made to the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Department reporting a wrong-way vehicle, alerting officials and motorists to the danger on the roadway.

At the same time, a 71-year-old driver, Clarence Mackey of Alapaha, Georgia, was heading northbound in a 2026 Freightliner in the correct lane of travel. After spotting the oncoming vehicle, he attempted to take evasive action, but the collision could not be avoided.

The impact was severe. The Ford Ranger was struck, left the roadway, and rolled onto its side. Galenski was ejected from the vehicle during the crash. The Freightliner crossed the median after impact and came to rest in the southbound lanes.

Emergency responders arrived quickly, but Galenski was pronounced dead at the scene by Deputy Coroner Mary Ann Dudley of the Sullivan County Coroner’s Office. His family has been notified.

Authorities say toxicology results are still pending, and accident reconstruction teams are continuing to investigate the circumstances that led to the wrong-way travel. Multiple agencies, including local police, sheriff’s deputies, and wrecker services, assisted at the scene.

As the investigation continues, the community remembers Bradley Galenski and mourns a life lost too soon, while officials work to determine exactly how the tragedy occurred.
