The Callaway County community and law enforcement agencies across Missouri are mourning the loss of Missouri State Highway Patrol Corporal Gary T. Daniels, who died Thursday following a tragic incident in Callaway County.

According to authorities, emergency responders were dispatched to Callaway County Road 395, east of U.S. Highway 63, at approximately 2:55 p.m. after a 911 caller reported that a trooper had been shot. Deputies from the Callaway County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene and located Corporal Daniels.

Preliminary findings later indicated that the incident involved an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. Officials emphasized that the investigation remains active and that no additional details are being released at this time.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol, the Callaway County Sheriff’s Office, and the Callaway County Coroner’s Office are jointly investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Corporal Daniels began his career with the Missouri State Highway Patrol on July 1, 2015. During his years of service, he dedicated himself to protecting the public and serving communities throughout Missouri. His passing has left fellow officers, friends, family members, and community residents grieving a profound loss.
