Modesto Stabbing Tragedy – Three Killed, Including Infant, in Modesto Stabbing, Suspect Arrested

A tragic stabbing incident in Modesto, California, has left two women and an infant dead, while a 4-year-old child survived and was hospitalized. Authorities have arrested a suspect in connection with the attack, which occurred Thursday morning at a residence near Monterey and Thrasher Avenues.

According to the Modesto Police Department, officers responded shortly after 9:20 a.m. following reports of a disturbance at the home. Upon arrival, officers found a 23-year-old woman suffering from multiple stab wounds. Despite emergency efforts, she was pronounced dead at the scene.

As officers searched the residence, they discovered two additional victims: a 54-year-old woman and an infant, both suffering from stab wounds. The older woman was pronounced dead at the scene. The infant was transported to a hospital but later succumbed to their injuries. A 4-year-old child was also located inside the home and taken to a hospital for treatment.

Police described the scene as devastating. Investigators spent hours processing evidence and attempting to determine the circumstances that led to the attack.

Authorities later identified the suspect as 28-year-old Joaquin Escoto. Following the incident, law enforcement launched a search and eventually located him hiding inside a nearby residence. He was taken into custody without incident.

Investigators believe Escoto shared a child with one of the victims, though authorities have not yet released a detailed motive. Detectives continue to examine the relationships between those involved and the events leading up to the attack.

Family members expressed profound grief as news of the tragedy spread. Relatives told local media that multiple generations of the same family were among the victims, including a young infant only weeks old.

The incident also prompted precautionary safety measures in the surrounding area. Nearby Orville Wright Elementary School was placed on lockdown while officers searched for the suspect and secured the neighborhood. Students and staff remained safe throughout the response.

Due to the ongoing police activity, students and staff were temporarily relocated to another school campus before being safely reunited with their families. Several nearby roads were also closed as investigators worked at the scene.

Police have stated that the attack appears to have been an isolated incident and that there is no ongoing threat to the public. Nevertheless, the case has deeply affected the Modesto community, where residents continue to mourn the loss of three lives, including that of a very young child.
